Update March 2021 Candy Rae was picked to compete in our 10th Annual Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainers Challenge event. She went into training on January 2 and was progressing wonderfully, even received several rides under saddle. If you thought 2020 was a rough year and trust me, it was for everyone, it appears that 2020 is a gift that just keeps on giving. To our dismay, Candy Rae is confirmed pregnant. When we were hit with that news, it stopped us all in our tracks and we had to think back to who, what, where, when. I do not advocate for breeding, specially grade horses. I believe if you are going to breed, you breed to improve the breed. Meaning, proven parents with extensive backgrounds. So for Candi Rae to come up pregnant is horrifying to say the least. Once we sat down and visited with our veterinarian, we all remembered who the culprit was. In February 2020, Hondo came into our rescue program. Hondo was thin, he was 8 years old, and he had NO testicles. Our veterinarian even confirmed what we felt and placed him in the standing stocks and palpated for testicles, NONE! An 8-year-old horse should have prominent testicles present. All horses are quarantined for 3 to 4 weeks prior to being turned out with the other horses. So, he was turned out in March to join the herd. Late April, we noticed he was exhibiting stud like behavior. We pulled him up and checked him again and bam, now he has testicles. We thought, surely, he didn't breed anything because Irish Red and Tom Jones were not happy with him and was working hard to keep him away from the mares. Hondo fooled us all and we certainly won't make that mistake again. He was immediately brought back into a stall and an appointment for castration was scheduled. He was gelded immediately. We get a lot of studs in our program. We always take proper precautions to ensure the mares are never exposed or bred. Again, I can't stress enough, I do not advocate for breeding grade horses. There are too many unwanted horses already in this world. To say I'm horrified and beyond embarrassed in an understatement. It is way too late to resolve this problem now and Candy Rae is due to foal any day now. I am so sad to see her pregnant. But I am thrilled that she will remain with her trainer, and they will continue to train Candy Rae. Don't worry, they professionals and will be allowing Candy Rae the appropriate amount of time off, to prepare for delivery and to foal out. We will address Candy adoption status after her foal arrives.

Update March 20, 2021, Candy Rae foaled a beautiful, healthy little colt on March 20, 2021. Momma and Baby are doing great. As you can imagine, her adorable little youth trainer, has falling deeply in love with this baby. If you are coming to the competition to adopt Candy Rae, please note, the foal has been adopted by her trainer Abi Dickinson. Due to the time off that Candy Rae needed to have her baby, Abi Dickinson will continue to train Candy Rae after competition, in order to make up for the time lost in training. If you adopt Candy Rae, you will be able to take her home, once she has weaned the foal, and the training has been completed. We want to make sure the adopter is still getting the appropriate amount of training. With that said, Candy Rae is an amazing horse with a great disposition. We witnessed Candy Rae being lightly ridden bareback by Abi 2 weeks before she foaled. If you are lucky enough to adopt this amazing mare, you won't be disappointed.

Candy Rae on did a great job at this year's 10th Annual Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainers Challenge. We are thrilled to announce that Youth Trainer Abi Dickinson came in 7th place with Team Candy Rae. Both did an amazing job, and we couldn't be prouder of this wonderful team.

Candy Rae has been adopted to a wonderful in Lawton, Oklahoma. Candy Rae is going to be extremely well loved and spoiled rotten in her forever, loving home. We are thrilled that this special girl found the forever, loving family she deserves where she will be showered with love and attention.
